What's On: Kempley Daffodil Weekend returns for another bumper year
17th March 2017
Where: Kempley, Forest of Dean
When: Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19
Spring is in the air as the annual Kempley Daffodil Weekend is set to brighten up the weekend.
The event is celebrating its 42nd anniversary this year after four Kempley ladies in 1975 decided to host teas on a specific weekend to raise money for the local churches.
It is still going strong and is a highlight for families and walkers to enjoy a stroll and see wild daffodils in the local woods and fields, some of which are Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
This weekend, the hall will be open from 10.30am to 5pm each day serving refreshments including soup, ploughman's, rolls and cake. There will also be handicrafts, produce and plants for sale.
There are guided walks from the hall to make the most of the daffodil displays which are of different lengths from a mile to six or seven miles. There is also a daff and ride bus which takes people on a local tour to see the daffodils every half an hour.
In St Edwards Church there will be a display and competition of scarecrows. St Mary's church will also be open for visitors to view its frescoes and wall paintings.
All proceeds go to St Edward's Church and Kempley Village Hall Restoration Fund.
