Junction will be closed for resurfacing work
28th February 2017
One of the main road junctions in Cheltenham is set to undergo improvements.
The A40 junction at London Road and Old Bath Road in the town will be resurfaced by Gloucestershire County Council as part of its investment in roads.
Used by thousands of commuters, businesses and shoppers, the route into and out of the south west of Cheltenham is subject to heavy wear and tear.
To keep roads open during the daytime and minimise disruption, road closures have been planned for the evenings between 7-11pm from 20-24 March.
During this time, 500 tonnes of durable new asphalt - three times the weight of an average sized house - will be laid over 1000 square metres of road, which is around the size of four tennis courts.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "We know that highways are important to residents, which means they're a priority for us, too.
"We're continually investing in local roads to keep the county moving, especially in the case of busy junctions such as this."
The majority of traffic will be able to find short routes around the closed section of road, but the following diversion route will be signposted for heavier vehicles:
From Berkeley Street turn right and follow A46 Bath Road, then turn left into Sandford Road, left again on to Old Bath Road and right on to Sandford Mill Road (one-way restriction lifted) to re-join A40 London road eastbound
