Grand prize on offer in big clean-up

Groups are being invited to compete for a share of £1,000.

Building on the success of last year's 'Clean for the Queen' prize competition, Cotswold District Council has been inviting community groups to smarten up their neighbourhoods.

The council is running a Great Cotswolds Clean Up competition, which continues until this Sunday, which carries a prize fund of £1,000.

Schools, community groups and other volunteers, such as brownies, are being encouraged to carry out a litter pick, take 'before' and 'after' photographs, and also give an indication of how they might sustain progress to continue reducing litter in their areas.

The launch of the competition coincided with Keep Britain Tidy's Great British clean up weekend, and CDC obtained thousands of branded sacks from the organisation to distribute to volunteer litter pickers.

There will be three prizes on offer in the CDC competition - £500 for first place, £300 for second and £200 for third.

To apply, email cdc@cotswold.gov.uk or telephone 01285 623123 and provide the location scheduled for a litter pick, together with the name of a community representative who is willing to liaise with the council.

Winners of the competition will be required to spend the prize money on improving or maintaining the appearance of their community.
