Flagship festival draws crowds from far and wide

The 2017 Gloucester Tall Ships Festival has been hailed as a "great success".

Crowds turned out in force for the action-packed event, organised by Marketing Gloucester, in Gloucester Docks over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Attractions included seven tall ships - the most for the festival to date - a giant Ferris wheel proving superb views of the city, action from the Industry Pro Wakeboard Tour, sword fighting displays from Captain Jack, live music, a vintage fairground and food and drink stalls.

Running alongside, the third Gloucester Shanty Festival showcased a great line-up of around acclaimed acts performing at various venues around the city centre.

Gloucester City Council leader and Marketing Gloucester chairman Cllr Paul James said: "The Tall Ships Festival was a great success for the city again.

"It attracted people to Gloucester from far and wide, as well as many local residents too, and they all seemed to enjoy it.

"The weather was rather mixed, with a slightly cold and windy day on Saturday, glorious sunshine on Sunday and rain on Monday.

"With better weather, I'm sure the crowds would have been even greater.

"I was really pleased with the quality of the event and its organisation, and this will have helped to enhance the strong reputation this festival has built up over the years."
