Two senior journalists and a mobile games entrepreneur are amongst five new Deputy Lord-Lieutenants who have been appointed to Gloucestershire.

They will take part in a wide range of events and civic duties with the county's Lord- Lieutenant, Dame Janet Trotter who is the Queen's ceremonial representative in the county.

The five new deputies have all made considerable contributions either to national life, their local communities or both.

They are:

Mark Hurrell (pictured) who recently retired from his position as Managing Editor of BBC Radio Gloucestershire after 14 year at the helm. During his time at the station, Mark worked to reflect the community that it serves, reporting on a wide range of events and activities. He is particularly proud of the role the radio station played during the devastating floods of 2007.

Mark said: "This is a real honour and I'm delighted. I'm looking forward to continuing to be actively involved in the life of the county .

Eve Jardine-Young who has worked in education for over 20 years and is the current Principal of Cheltenham Ladies' College, a position she has held since 2011, returning to the school where she studied after gaining a scholarship at 16.

She has forged links between Cheltenham Ladies' College and local charities such as the Cheltenham Festivals, and is a governor of the Barnwood Trust.

Oli Christie (pictured) who founded Neon Play, a mobile games studio in 2010. The company employs 30 people in Cirencester and has won a number of awards, including the Queen's Awards for Innovation in 2013. He is also the founder of Rock the Cotswolds, a not-for-profit social enterprise that champions a different side to the Cotswolds, to help attract staff, businesses and visitors to the area.

Roger Deeks who has held senior posts in the NHS, working in community and mental health services, and later in higher education. He lives near Lydney and keeps horses, sheep, dogs and bees and has an active interest in the history, landscape and environment of the Forest of Dean. He is involved with local groups supporting learning and literacy.

Former editor Vivienne Hargreaves who has held a range of journalistic roles in the county including Editor-in-Chief of County Publications, (including Gloucestershire the County Magazine), Deputy Chief Sub Editor and Features Editor at the Gloucester Citizen and Editor of The Forester Newspaper from 2000-2013.

Her love of music is reflected in her roles as Chair of the Gloucestershire Academy of Music, Vice Chair of the Royal Forest of Dean Orchestra, Chair of the Gloucestershire Symphony Orchestra and Chair of the Gloucestershire Young Musician of the Year.

She is pictured presenting a 90th birthday gift last week to Trevor Pleass, the oldest member of the Gloucestershire Symphony Orchestra.

She said: "I feel extremely honoured and privileged to have been chosen. I am very much looking forward to serving the county in any way I can.

"Having lived, worked and brought up my family in the Forest of Dean over the past 40 years, I am sure this beautiful area will come into my sphere of duties."

Lord-Lieutenant, Dame Janet Trotter said: "I am delighted to announce these five new Deputies who will assist in the work of the Lieutenancy.

"Their diverse backgrounds provide us with deep roots into the county and will help us to continue to serve it effectively in future."

Gloucestershire has had a Lord-Lieutenant since 1559. The role was originally tasked with training local men and leading them against rebels and foreign invaders.
