City shirt makers salute courageous army veterans
22nd June 2017
Crowds turned out at a Gloucester business today to support two injured army veterans of Afghanistan who are taking part in an epic charity challenge.
Over 14 days Corporal Andy Reid and Infantry Warrant Office Glen Hughes will cycle 400 miles, kayak 125 miles and climb 17,500 feet.
They are taking part in the fundraising Balfour Beatty Warrior Challenge 2017 which honours the memory of six brave soldiers who lost their lives in 2012 when their Warrior armoured vehicle was attacked in Afghanistan.
What makes the challenge all the more remarkable is that Andy Reid lost both his legs and his right arm in Afghanistan and Glen Hughes is still recovering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Yesterday the two men were warmly applauded when they arrived outside Emma Willis' bespoke shirt making centre at Bearland House in Longsmith Street, Gloucester.
Emma founded Style for Soldiers, the charity which provides morale boosting clothing and accessories for injured military personnel and also organises popular re-union parties.
The Balfour Beatty Warrior Challenge will help raise money for both ABF, the soldiers' charity and Style for Soldiers.
Andy and Glen will complete their epic challenge at a reception at the Houses of Parliament.
