Business student seeks fundraising to develop education in third world

A Gloucestershire business student is seeking local business support with his fundraising to develop education in third world countries, specifically Nepal.

Connor Wells from Gloucester and his teammate Nick Snowden from Sydney will stand face to face with Mount Everest and trek the hostile Himalayan terrain to reach Base Camp, a final altitude of 17,598 feet. The 14-day expedition will begin on 4th June and the duo will trek through four extreme seasons in a bid to return safely to their home countries. The pair have been training to manage altitude anxiety, oxygen deprivation and extreme altitude sickness.

Connor has spent time doing work experience right here at Punchline. We're pleased to have ignited his passion for local business. During his time with us, he worked closely with a multitude of different clients before moving to the United States. Upon his return, Connor was able to solidify a full time position at cosmetics giant L'Oréal, amongst some of the best talent in the country.

He said: "Without the support of my old school St. Peters, my marketing mentor Mark Owen and my first role at Moose Marketing & PR, it would have been difficult to kick start the career that I have worked so hard for."

For their challenge, Connor and Nick have partnered with United World Schools (UWS), a charity that build educational networks in Nepal to provide education for poor and destitute children. All donations will go direct to the charity and towards primary level education in Nepal.

Having spent four years as a marketing undergraduate studying in both London and the USA, Connor is inspired by the opportunities that education can offer an ambitious child. He is an active member of the UK's United Nations Association and believes that education alone can unlock a country's potential for economic growth, good health and peace. According to United World Schools, if all children in low-income countries achieved basic reading skills, 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty.

The team is aiming to raise £5,000 for United World Schools and donations can be made before, during and after the climb. The pair began fundraising in February and hope to reach their target before flying out the Kathmandu on 30th May.

All donations large or small are greatly appreciated, and individuals or businesses will be publicised via social media platforms in return for supporting a local fundraiser and educational development in deprived countries. Donation Page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/everesttrekforusw
