Bogus roofers con elderly woman out of more than £1,000

Police are seeking witnesses after two men defrauded an elderly Hartpury woman into paying more than £1,000 for roofing work that was never carried out.

The pair first called at the 90-year-old victim's home in the week of 13 to 19 March, and again on 23 March. Each time, they convinced her to hand over several hundred pounds in cash for the replacement of loose tiles. No work was done.

Both men are white, and possibly father and son. The older one is aged about 60 and wore a flat cap. The younger was in his early twenties. They were driving a fawn or beige-coloured car with ladders on the roof.

Anyone in the Hartpury area who remembers seeing these men, or has had similar traders call at their address, is asked to call 101, quoting incident 236 of 24/3/17.
