Airport homes plan fails to take off

A proposal to move Gloucestershire Airport and use the land for new housing and businesses appears to have been grounded.

Tewkesbury Borough Councillor Graham Bocking mooted the idea as a possible answer to the county's housing shortage.

But Gloucester City Council and Cheltenham Borough Council who own the airport at Staverton say the plan will never take off, as reported on gloucestershirelive.co.uk

Gloucestershire Airport is the UK's busiest general aviation airport with 80,000 flights a year.

It supports 1,100 jobs and is home to more than 40 aviation and aerospace businesses.

The redevelopment of the airport would also move Gloucester and Cheltenham closer to a merger.
